stacking the shelves book-buying

Stacking the Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality

what’s the buzz: weekly round-up

It’s the Halloween edition of Stacking the Shelves this week! This has been a pretty darn hectic week and I’ve barely had a chance to unwind which is a shame because I normally love the lead-up to Halloween! I’ve been really busy at work and have been dealing with a spell (see what I did there?) of migraines so all-in-all not the best of weeks.

Went to Bohemian Rhapsody this week which I really enjoyed (I’m a huge Queen fan). I am not a fan of a certain disgraced director but I couldn’t miss seeing this particular biopic since I have always adored Queen’s music. It was amazing from an audio perspective hearing all the fantastic tunes but I thought the cast did a pretty admirable job of bringing to life some of the most colourful characters in music.

book haul – halloween edition!

Bearing in mind that Halloween is just around the corner, it felt only fitting to get a few vintage horror novels along with some newer releases. So without any further ado, here is my book haul for this week – Halloween edition! 🎃

halloween

Girls Made of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan | Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas | A Deadly Game of Magic by Joan Lowery Nixon

Isn’t the cover for ‘Girls Made of Paper and Fire’ absolutely stunning? This edition has pink sprayed edges too – I think I’m in love! 😍 I was also happy to finally get ‘Kingdom of Ash’ – now I can finally read the series! Rounding out my haul is a book by Joan Lowery Nixon I remember from my childhood.

halloween

Welcome Stranger by Anthony Masters | The Hitchhiker by R.L. Stine

I got these two lovely titles from an Etsy shop called Willow’s Mystery. They offer a blind item of any two Point Horror or Fear Street (chosen at random) plus some other extras. I love the idea of blind items and this one did not disappoint. I do already own ‘The Hitchhiker’ but I’m planning to re-gift this to a friend who loves PH as much as I do!

halloween

Audrey Rose by Frank De Felitta | For the Love of Audrey Rose by Frank De Felitta | The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge | Lie to Me by Natasha Preston

I remember reading ‘Audrey Rose’ as a teenager so I’m curious about how well this will hold up. Don’t think I’ve ever read the sequel (I’m not sure I was aware there even was a sequel to be honest) so this should prove interesting! I also picked up ‘The Twisted Tree’ which looks thoroughly creepy and ‘Lie to Me’ which also looks good.

books for review

I kinda went a bit mad on Netgalley again this week (after doing so well for the last few months). There were just too many interesting books… I couldn’t help myself. 😉 Again, it’s very much the Halloween edition, even for my ARC’s – lots of spooky titles!

halloween

The Meadows by London Clarke | The Witch of the Hills by J.M. Fraser | Watch Over by Amy Reece | Watcher in the Woods by Kelley Armstrong

A couple of spooky titles to be found here along with some thrills and romance. Sounds pretty perfect to me. 👻

halloween

Death of a Bachelor by M.A. Hinkle | The Art of Hero Worship by Mia Kerick | Pisces Hooks Taurus by Anyta Sunday | Night Moves by Kat Cassidy

A couple of my favourite authors along with a few new (to me) authors. I’m definitely in the mood for some romance and Anyta Sunday never disappoints!
