I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my favourite authors, the ones who inspired me to start-up a blog in the first place. I love discussing books but I really feel like I should be giving some of the authors I really enjoy some love!
I like to read as wide a variety as possible (though I do tend to favour young adult (especially contemporary) and science fiction and fantasy. I have discovered a plethora of authors since I joined the book blogging community (and before that when I became active on Goodreads). Nothing beats the thrill of discovering brand new (to me anyway) shiny authors.
One author in particular has been hugely influential for me. She is the reason I started reading Young Adult again after many years away from it. That author is Richelle Mead.
I haven’t read every single one of her series (I have yet to read the Age of X series and I have only read the first book in the Georgina Kincaid series) but I have loved everything of hers that I have read so far.
Vampire Academy was a revelation for me. It is not the first YA vampire series I had ever read (I was a big fan of L.J. Smith in the 1990’s) but it is definitely the one with the most interesting mythology (Twilight I am looking at you – sparkly vampires be damned!) that is based on actual folklore. I am also a big fan of the spin-off series Bloodlines (and very excited for the next book Silver Shadows – out next month).
Mead’s Dark Swan series was also one I really enjoyed (despite not loving the main character very much). I really like urban fantasy as a genre and this series was definitely a stand-out.
