best of 2014

I have posted previously about my favourite books of 2014 but I thought it would be fun to do a more general post with the things that really got me excited this year.

Best of 2014: A to Z

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe – this was definitely my favourite book of 2014 – Benjamin Alire Sáenz is an amazing writer. Everything about this book was sheer perfection.

Beats Headphones – I love these! I got a new iPod for Christmas and a set of these headphones to go with it (I am not a far of in-ear headphones at all).

cullenxquizzy2
Cullen and my Inquisitor

Cullen Stanton Rutherford – Cullen finally has a full name! I will let you all in on a little secret – ever since Dragon Age: Origins came out, I have always been a little fascinated by the shy Templar who fancied with my Amell/Surana Warden in the Mage origin.

My primary love interest in this game was Alistair (though I also really enjoyed romancing Zevran as well) but there was always a small part of me that would have liked to romance Cullen. Even when he shouted at my mage upon her return to the Mage Circle (he had been tortured by demons so I let him off with the ranting and raving!)

His role was expanded a little in Dragon Age 2 so I was hopeful for (but not expecting) a return for his character in the third instalment Dragon Age: Inquisition. I was delighted when it appeared he had been included (from the leaked survey) and over the moon when he was not only announced as an advisor but also a romance option (though it would have been nice to have him as a companion). His romance in DA: I has not disappointed me in the least!

Dragon Age: Inquisition – this one is a little obvious considering my previous selection! 😀 I have been waiting for this game for years and although it is far from being a perfect game I have absolutely had a ball playing it – and I’m not quite finished yet as I am determined to make my first playthrough last as long as possible!

Etsy – why it took me so long to discover this I honestly cannot explain! I love some of the shops on Etsy and I have bought some really amazing bookish jewellery on here!

Fool’s Assassin – I was so happy to be approved for an ARC for this book! I am a huge fan of Robin Hobb (I would even go as far to say that she is my favourite fantasy author) and I have read all of the previous books in this series. It was amazing to finally be back with these beloved characters after such a long break. Plus, I also managed to snag a signed copy when the book went on sale!!

Guardians of the Galaxy – how amazing was this film? I was completely blown away!

Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies – loved the film but just as sad as I expected!

iPhone – why did I wait so bloody long to get this?

Jewellery – got some gorgeous jewellery for my birthday/Christmas this year.

Knights of the Old Republic – my favourite game of all time, one I will always go back to for a little bit of comfort!

Lily & Lotty – got a lovely key necklace for my Christmas from Lily and Lotty with a cute little diamond on it!

Maggie Stiefvater – a new favourite! I absolutely adore her Raven Cycle series – best series I read in 2014 by a long-shot!

Nominations for various Blog Awards – thanks so much to my fellow bloggers. I love you guys!! <3 <3

Outlander – I expected to like it but I never expected to be so completely enthralled. I haven’t read the books yet but you can bet it is on my list of things to do in 2015!

Pitlochry holiday – I have not had a proper holiday in years so it was lovely to get away for a bit. Planning another getaway next year!

Quizzes – I had a blast doing these as you can see from my various blog posts

Reaching 500 followers on my blog – I love all of my followers so much. You guys rock!!

sherlock
Sherlock

Sherlock – I only really got into Sherlock at the beginning of the year but I am now completely obsessed and not just because of Benedict Cumberbatch (even though it helps!)

The Winter Solider – awesome movie (and yes I totally cheated and put this under ‘T’!) 😛

Under Pressure – Queen! Queen!! Queen!!! Got back into Queen in a big way this year.

Veronica Mars movie – it came and it was glorious!

Walking Dead – still as into this show as ever but I really wish they would stop with the ‘shocking’ deaths – it just isn’t shocking anymore!

Xbox One – I am now the proud owner of one of these beauties!

YA Fiction Rewind feature – I never got through as much as I would like but still had a lot of fun with this!

ZooBorns – I love this site! You really need to check it out (link).

    • I was the same with Guardians of the Galaxy – had no expectations whatsoever and absolutely loved it! 😀

The Hobbit is quite polarizing – half the people I know seemed to love it and the other half hated it lol. I enjoyed it but felt that it shouldn’t have been split over three films – the original idea of having just two films would have worked better, I think. The pacing wouldn’t have felt so off. 🙂

      • Yeah, what I didn’t like about The Hobbit was that the movies were boring most of the time and as you said, if they would have done two, or even only one movie, that would have done the trick. I mean who wants to see hours of fighting with not much else happening?

        • Exactly – it was too stretched out. One film would have been best but two would probably have been fine if they were going to add extra bits not in the book. 🙂
