Brin’s Book Buzz: October

Hello and welcome to another edition of Brin’s Book Buzz – the October Edition! There are soooo many books coming out in October – it’s going to be difficult deciding which ones to buy and which ones to put off reading for a while. Here are my top picks for October – bit of a supernatural/fantasy theme going on in honour of Halloween!

Stitching Snow by R.C. Lewis

stitchingPrincess Snow is missing.

Her home planet is filled with violence and corruption at the hands of King Matthias and his wife as they attempt to punish her captors. The king will stop at nothing to get his beloved daughter back-but that’s assuming she wants to return at all.

Essie has grown used to being cold. Temperatures on the planet Thanda are always sub-zero, and she fills her days with coding and repairs for the seven loyal drones that run the local mines.

When a mysterious young man named Dane crash-lands near her home, Essie agrees to help the pilot repair his ship. But soon she realizes that Dane’s arrival was far from accidental, and she’s pulled into the heart of a war she’s risked everything to avoid.

In her enthralling debut, R.C. Lewis weaves the tale of a princess on the run from painful secrets . . . and a poisonous queen. With the galaxy’s future-and her own-in jeopardy, Essie must choose who to trust in a fiery fight for survival.

I have been really looking forward to this book. It sounds a little similar to The Lunar Chronicles but still appears different enough to really intrigue me. I am definitely going to be buying this one!

This looks utterly amazing. Poe was a truly terrifying writer so a reimagining of one of his classic tales? You can count me in! I cannot wait for this one.

Talon by Julie Kagawa

talonLong ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they’re positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.

Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.

Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon’s newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater

lilyThere is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up.

Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs.

The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost.

Friends can betray.
Mothers can disappear.
Visions can mislead.
Certainties can unravel.

Expected release date: October 21 2014

I am super-psyched for this book! I adored the The Raven Boys and The Dream Thieves so this book has a lot to live up to (but that doesn’t matter because I just know it will be amazing)!
