Top Ten Tuesday is an awesome meme previously hosted by the lovely folks @ The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is:
Top Ten Characters I Liked From Books I did Not
Characters are what make books for me; I’ve very character-oriented – it’s important for me to connect with characters but not always necessary for me to like them. However, it does help if I do!
Now, not all of these were books I actively disliked, but since I wasn’t 100% sold on them so they definitely fell somewhere on the lower end of the likability scale.
Some of these books I was just a little bit meh on but I did manage to connect with at least one of the characters. I can overall not hugely enjoy a book but if there is at least one character I like… well, it makes it worthwhile for me.
1. Cameron Briel – Fallen series by Lauren Kate
I’ll admit, I never made it past the second book. I am just not a huge fan of books with angels I guess. However, I did love that bad boy Cam – so much so that I read the second book even though the first didn’t really do anything for me. I may check out the series…
2. Evie O’Neill – The Diviners series by Libba Bray
I feel like a bit of a lone wolf with this one as even though I liked The Diviners when I first read it, it didn’t wow me and I haven’t been inclined to read beyond the first book (as yet). Evie though… I loved her – she was so feisty and flawed but awesome at the same time!
3. Damon Salvatore – Vampire Diaries series by L.J. Smith
This series could never be described as a great piece of art by any stretch but Damon… Alright, Damon is a pretty amazing character. Even though I kinda want to hate the guy, I really can’t. He makes the books (and the series!) for me.
4. Surreal – The Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop
This is technically a cheat because I actually do like the series (the first couple of books anyways) but Surreal is a character I frankly adore and I just do not get the fascination for Jaenelle (whom I loathe). Surreal is just so much better in every way.
5. Lila Fowler – Sweet Valley High series by Francine Pascal
C’mon, Lila was way cooler than nagging Liz or sociopathic Jessica! She was just the right amount of scheming and bitchy with a little bit of hidden vulnerability. I always loved Lila and often wished she was the focus instead of those annoying Wakefield twins.
6. Kerrec – White Magic series by Caitlin Brennan
I struggled a lot with this series (still have to read the third and final book) but I really loved Kerrec who was the main character’s love interest.
7. Jessica Stanley – Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer
I know, I know, I never thought I would see the day either where Twilight makes it on a list of mine! However, I did always really like Jessica (both book and movie version) so it was pretty clear she was going to make this list (plus, Anna Kendrick is adorbs!)
8. Landon Lucas Maxfield – Contours of the Heart series by Tammara Webber
I liked the book (Easy) a lot when I first read it but when I re-read it again a couple of years later I really struggled with it and the main character Jacqueline. I do still love Lucas though!
9. Jace Hammond – Shifters series by Rachel Vincent
Jace… what can I say? *fans self* I love Jace so much more than the actual main love interest Marc it’s actually not funny. Marc sucks. Jace FTW!
10. Nick Armstrong – The Secret Circle series by L.J. Smith
The majority of characters suck in this book – apart from Nick. Seriously, even the television series was an improvement on the characters as portrayed in the books. They were awful people for the most part. Nick definitely got short-changed in the books and especially the series.

Well, this was a hard post to do but it actually ended up being a lot of fun!

Damon was definitely my favorite character from the TVD tv series. 🙂
