Classic Kids TV Shows: An Introduction…

It would be fair to say that I am a pretty nostalgic person at the best of times; some people might go as far to say that I am a bit too stuck in the past! You may even have noticed if you follow this blog that I tend to reminisce about books I read when I was younger, films that I loved, toys that I can remember playing with and so on. I tend to look back on things I enjoyed in the past with rose-tinted glasses.

One topic that comes up a lot among my friends and work colleagues, is that of television shows we used to watch when we were kids. I cannot begin to explain how much time I have spent discussing all of my favourite shows that I used to watch when I was a child.

The discussion came up again the other day and I got a blast of inspiration: I could do a feature on my blog discussing favourite shows of bygone years! I will probably age myself a bit here, but I grew up in the 80s and I can remember a lot of amazing shows that I used to tune into without fail.

Not all of these were made in the 80s. There were a lot of reruns of older shows that were made in the 60s and 70s which I can remember loving as well. I see a lot of the programs that are on for children nowadays and this may be the nostalgia talking, but I invariably think to myself “kids shows used to be so much better in my day” (told you I was getting on a bit lol).

I think it would be very sad to forget some of these classic programs. I have often found myself on YouTube looking up my old favourites (the theme songs for some of them are just amazing) and I thought it could be really fun sharing them with you all (either that or I will depress myself royally)!!

 Look out for posts on:

  • Dungeons and Dragons (1983 – 1985)
  • Thundercats (1985 – 1989)
  • Fraggle Rock (1983 – 1987)
  • Ulysses 31 (1981 – 1982)
  • Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds (1981 – 1982)
  • She-Ra: Princess of Power (1985 – 1987)
  • plus many more!

I watched Rugrats too! I was a little bit older when it was aired but it was a staple of Saturday morning tv for me! Power Rangers was also massively popular but I never really got into it. Pokemon passed me by completely lol. 😉

  1. ‘Dance your cares away…clap clap!’ Oh I loved the theme for Fraggle Rock! For me it was Sesame Street (especially Count Von Count), Chorlton and the Wheelies, Emu’s World, Mr Benn, Bod, The Woofits, Into the Labyrinth, Around the World with Willy Fog…erk I feel really old now!

I have had the theme song in my head for days lol. 😉 It is still amazing.

I too loved the Count – most of the shows you have mentioned I used to love, especially Willy Fog!!
