Famous People on Book Covers #1

Anyone following this blog on a regular basis is probably aware how much I love certain book covers. I always attribute it to the fact that I have a very visual-orientated memory – I can remember covers clearly whilst authors names and book titles tend to fade out of my memory banks pretty quickly. I am very thankful for sites like Goodreads and LibraryThing which allow me to catalogue all of my reads – I would really be lost without them (and this blog too, of course).

Anyway, as I was saying (before I started rambling on) covers tend to stick in my memory. I have made it a bit of a hobby to track down books I read as a teen; which is a bit tricky since I very rarely remember anything but the cover – and quite often the UK version is different anyway.

In my long, arduous travels to seek out my teen reads, I have come across some very familiar faces on book covers – most notably young adult books from the 80s and 90s (though some are outwith this period). I thought it would be fun to share these with you on my blog (some of these are really pretty funny).

Amanda Seyfried

Before she was a bright young starlet (making her name in films like Mean Girls, Jennifer’s Body, and Les Misérables) Amanda Seyfried graced the covers of Francine Pascal’s Victoria Martin series!  These editions were published in 2003 but the book series goes further back than that. I read the first book My Mother Was Never a Kid when it was originally called Hanging Out With Cici. This book was originally published in 1977 with the last book in the three-part series being published in 1985. The above covers are the re-released versions of this series from the author who would also unleash on the world the ofttimes (in)famous Sweet Valley High series (more on that later).

Jennifer Connelly

Jennifer Connelly seems to have been an incredibly prolific model for 1980s teen books! She appeared on the Sweet Dreams book The Two of Us, the First Love series book Once In California, not to mention two separate Caprice titles! She also appeared on standalone Annabelle Starr, E.S.P. plus she was also on the cover for the Labyrinth movie tie-in novel – girl really got around! Alright, Labyrinth is a joke as she did after all appear in the film but my point stands. I just cannot resist inserting Labyrinth into this post – such as awesome movie!!

Courteney Cox

Courteney Cox looks like she just stepped out of the Dancing in the Dark video here! She rather famously appeared on the Sweet Dreams title The Last Word and can also be found on Windswept’s The Secret of the Dark. I also came across Summer to Summer and the likeness is just too uncanny to not be her on this cover too! Long before her tenure as Monica on Friends; Courteney was rocking it up on the teen book scene!

Some More for Funsies!

Yup, that is Scott Disick A.K.A. Mr Kourtney Kardashian on this teen romance series Heartland circa 2001! I don’t recall ever reading it but maybe I will pick it up just for the lulz!

Lisanne Falk of Heathers fame can be found on this Sweet Dreams cover Thinking of You – she doesn’t really look all that much different here. I have heard she has done a fair bit of modelling for teen book covers but I couldn’t find any more examples.

Last, but by no means least, it’s the gorgeous Matt Bomer on the cover of Rainbow Boys by Alex Sanchez (that’s him lurking at the back). He still looks pretty darn adorable!

I hope you enjoyed this little feature – I will be returning with Part 2 very soon regardless (I’m evil that way). 😉 Stay tuned!!

Thanks! I know, all of these covers are very ’80s’ – it was such a different style back then lol. I had a lot of fun trying to find these covers. 🙂

Thanks! I am a bit addicted to finding all of my favourite teen reads – I just love the nostalgia of it all!!

  1. I had loads of Sweet Dreams books as a kid in the 70s & 80s and whilst looking through them recently, I had such fun ‘star spotting’ those who have gone on to make it big. I ended up googling this very topic and stumbled across your blog. I always thought Marcia Gay Harden featured on some older titles but there’s no way to tell unless I asked her directly… 😀 Did you ever create a #2 list of covers?
