Chami and Ely over at A Book So Fathomless created the Mid-Year Book Freakout, a mid-year survey where you pretty much get to gush about your favourite books that you have read so far this year. Sounds fun – sign me up!!
Mid-year Book Freakout
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2014
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz – honestly this book blew all of my expectations out of the water. It is seriously a contender for my favourite book ever!
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2014
The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater – I adored the first book but the second one was even better. I loved getting to know Ronan a bit better.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Conversion by Katherine Howe – an updated version of the Salem Witch Trials? Yes please!
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater – I cannot wait for this to be released!
5. Biggest disappointment
Hate List by Jennifer Brown – I want to stress I still liked this book but it didn’t wow me like I thought it would.
6. Biggest surprise
Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens – this book was an unexpectedly intense but enjoyable read.
7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)
Marissa Meyer – I finally jumped on the Lunar Chronicles bandwagon!
8. Newest fictional crush
Gansey from Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Cycle – a history geek but completely swoon-worthy? Be still my heart!
9. Newest favourite character
Captain Thorne from the Lunar Chronicles – I just love him!
10. Book that made you cry
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz – such a beautiful book.
11. Book that made you happy
How to Repair a Mechanical Heart by J.C. Lillis – Such a feel-good book.
12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year
I haven’t really seen many this year so this is a hard one…I suppose there is Devil’s Knot by Mara Leveritt – based on the true story of the West Memphis Three. The film was pretty good but I would say the HBO documentaries about this horrific crime were better.
13. Favourite review you’ve written this year
Sweet Valley High #1 Double Love by Francine Pascal – this review was a lot of fun to write!
14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
This is difficult…it is a tie between Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore or Unhinged by A.G. Howard…I just can’t decide!
15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi and The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner – I have bought each series in its entirety and I need to read them!

Ahh, I’m totally doing this!!
Do it!! LOL 😉 Looking forward to seeing your answers!!
