When the life you wanted has crumbled beneath your fingers, there’s nothing left to do but pick up the pieces and soldier on. You’ve done this before.

But what happens when you no longer feel like yourself anymore? When fires spontaneously start-up around you, when you hear growling coming from underneath your bed, and you no longer recognize your face in the mirror. What happens then?

Ghost-hunter Perry Palomino doesn’t have much time to find out. Now, the evil she used to hunt is a lot closer to home. It’s inside of her, taking over her life bit-by-terrifying bit, and there’s only one person who can help her.

If part of her doesn’t kill him first.

On Demon Wings is the fifth installment in the Experiment in Terror series and perhaps the hardest one to read.

At the end of the last book Lying Season; Perry was left reeling by Dex’s rejection. It is now several months later and Perry is still trying to pick up the pieces of her broken heart. In an effort to move on with her life, she has a new jobs and new friends but she still feels devastated by what happened between her and Dex. Not only that, but she is starting to fear she is being haunted or perhaps even worse. Perry undergoes another incredibly traumatic ordeal which leaves her feeling even more drained and dispirited.

Having no one else to turn to, except for her sister Ada, Perry finds herself becoming involved with Maximus (who was first introduced in Red Fox). Now living in Portland, Maximus has a proposition for Perry. He has recently starting working with Shownet and would like her to join with him to re-launch Experiment in Terror sans Dex. Perry does not want to return to the show but she can’t help feeling charmed by Maximus and agrees to go out with him. I hated this development as I absolutely do not trust Maximus.

However, not even this can help Perry with the feeling that something terrible is happening to her. She starts acting very out of character, losing periods time and behaving in a way that shocks everyone around her. Perry is beginning to feel that she is being possessed but no one (not even Maximus) believes her – only Ada, who has been like a rock to her throughout the last couple of months.

When things take a turn for the worse, there is only one person who can help Perry…and it is the man who broke her heart…

This was a hard book to get through (and not only because there was very little Dex). What happens to Perry in this book made my heart leap into my throat. I was on edge throughout the whole novel waiting anxiously for someone to help her.

I was so happy when Dex finally makes an appearance (with a little help from Ada). Despite everything that has happened between them, he is the only one who can save her (and who wasn’t cheering when he gave Maximus the beat-down he so richly deserved?).

This was another thrilling and engrossing installment (the scariest yet really since it is something that is directly happening to Perry). Words cannot describe how much I love this addictive, nail-bitingly tense series.
