stacking the shelves bookish haul

Stacking the Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality

what’s the buzz: weekly round-up

It’s been a pretty hard week. Someone I used to work beside died suddenly (they think of carbon monoxide poisoning) and a family member is ill in hospital. Everything kind-of happened at the end of the week and it has put a bit of a downer on the weekend, to be honest.

I did manage to acquire some books (new and vintage) at the start of the week and they arrived yesterday.

book haul – mostly point horror

Most of my haul this week is vintage books – namely Point Horror titles for the most part. I was really lucky to find a couple of lots on eBay. I do already own some of the books, but it was too good an offer to miss.

books bought:

Heart of Valour by L.J. Smith | The Night of the Solstice by L.J. Smith

I’ve never actually read this series though I’ve read nearly everything else by the author. Think it’s time I rectified this…

point horror haul mostly

Deadly Attraction by Diane Hoh | The Wish by Diane Hoh | The Whisperer by Diane Hoh | Book of Horrors by Diane Hoh | Last Breath by Diane Hoh | Win, Lose or Die by Diane Hoh | The Coffin by Diane Hoh | Deadly Visions by Diane Hoh | Student Body by Diane Hoh | The Vampire’s Kiss by Diane Hoh | Dark Moon by Diane Hoh | The Biker by Diane Hoh | Captives by Diane Hoh | Revenge by Diane Hoh | Kidnapped by Diane Hoh | The Dummy by Diane Hoh | The Voice in the Mirror by Diane Hoh

They only ever released books 1-15 of the Nightmare Hall series in the UK so I always knew I would need to import these from the States if I wanted to get my hands on them (which I invariably did). I was really lucky this week to come across a lot of the whole 29 books in the series on eBay. I had a bit of a bidding war going on but in the end I was victorious (natch). 😉

point horror haul mostly

Sorority Sister by Diane Hoh | Last Date by Diane Hoh | The Experiment by Diane Hoh | The Scream Team by Diane Hoh | The Nightwalker by Diane Hoh | The Initiation by Diane Hoh | Monster by Diane Hoh | The Silent Scream by Diane Hoh | Pretty Please by Diane Hoh | Guilty by Diane Hoh | The Roommate by Diane Hoh | Truth or Die by Diane Hoh

As I had to buy the whole lot, I have ended up with some duplicates but it was more than worth it to get the elusive second half of the series which I have never read.

point horror haul mostly

Dream Date by Sinclair Smith | Spring Break by Barbara Steiner | The Cemetery by D.E. Athkins | The Hunter by L.J. Smith | The Boy Next Door by Sinclair Smith | The Mummy by Barbara Steiner | The Kill by L.J. Smith | The Bride by D.E. Athkins | The Phantom by Barbara Steiner | The Diary by Sinclair Smith | Second Sight by Sinclair Smith | Amnesia by Sinclair Smith

Rounding out the Point Horror titles with several books by Sinclair Smith, Barbara Steiner and some others. Again, a few I already own but getting the ones I didn’t totally makes up for it.

point horror haul mostly

Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon | Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay

I admit, I picked up this copy of ‘Swan Song’ for purely nostalgic reasons – this is the edition I read as a teen! I already own the book but nothing wrong with having different versions of the same book. I have also wanted to read ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ for ages so when I saw this edition I knew I had to get it.

point horror haul mostly

Jack of Hearts (and Other Parts) by L.C. Rosen | Rapid Falls by Amber Cowie

I’ve been looking forward to the release of ‘Jack of Hearts’ so was chuffed to get it for £0.99 on Kindle! Also really like the look of ‘Rapid Falls’.

for review:

I know I have been trying to cut down on review copies but when I saw the Charley Davidson series available to read now on Netgalley I couldn’t seem to stop myself. I’ve wanted to try this series for ages.

point horror haul mostly

First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones | Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones | Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones | Fourth Grave Beneath my Feet by Darynda Jones

Okay, okay, it probably wasn’t the best idea to download all these books to my Kindle. After all, time is limited as it is! I know it was a bad idea but I guess I have poor impulse control…

point horror haul mostly

Fifth Grave Past the Light by Darynda Jones | Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones | Seventh Grave and No Body by Darynda Jones | Eighth Grave after Dark by Darynda Jones

Mind you, I hope I enjoy this series – would be a pity if I didn’t with all these books suddenly available to read. I’m definitely going to try it out though.

point horror haul mostly

The Dirt on the Ninth Grave by Darynda Jones | The Curse of the Tenth Grave by Darynda Jones | Eleventh Grave in Moonlight by Darynda Jones | The Trouble with Twelfth Grave by Darynda Jones

Crikey, so many books! This series is certainly long-running (with a new book out next year as well).

point horror haul mostly

The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons | In the Key of Nira Ghani by Natasha Deen | An Ocean Between Us by Rachel Quinn | Little Darlings by Melanie Golding

I’m really looking forward to ‘The Ruin of Kings’ and ‘Little Darlings’ in particular although all of these books look really good.

point horror haul mostly

Castle of Lies by Kiersi Burkhart | The Enchanted Sonata by Heather Dixon Wallwork

How gorgeous are both of these covers? I’m totally digging the aesthetic. The books sound super-intriguing too.

  1. Wow so many nice covers! I especially like Rapid Falls. I’m sorry to hear about your former co- worker, and wishing all the best to your family member who’s ill as well.
