Stacking the Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality

what’s the buzz: weekly round-up and book haul

Oh boy, this week has been, like, the absolute worst! Honestly, I just got nowhere this week. I was really busy at work but couldn’t seem to get a run at anything. As for blogging… whelp, it’s been pretty much non-existent as you might have noticed. No blogging, no reading, didn’t even get out to the cinema – it’s been a sucky week. 🙁

Ah well, it’s the weekend now! Hopefully I can recharge my batteries and do better next week.

On the plus side, I’ve been watching Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 and it just seems to be getting better and better each week. I loved this week’s episode and I’m now 100% sold on the series (I was about 90% before). I’m loving the stories, the characters… Captain Pike is awesome and I’m also really surprised to be loving Spock as well – Ethan Peck is selling the hell out of a younger, less-controlled Spock (but seriously, lose the beard!)

weekly bookish purchases

Shelf Discovery: The Teen Classics We Never Stopped Reading by Lizzie Skurnick

I have so much nostalgia for the teen reads I enjoyed back in the day, so Shelf Discovery was a must-have buy for me! I really cannot wait t get stuck into this – so many memories!

The Flight of Dragons by Peter Dickinson

I actually ordered The Flight of Dragons over two months ago and thought it must have gotten lost in the mail. Imagine my surprise when it turned up a few days ago! I loved the animated film of the same name which was loosely based on this book mixed with The Dragon and the George by Gordon R. Dickson (the story part was mostly based on the latter though it took a lot of inspiration from this book too).

Secret Vampire by L.J. Smith | Spellbinder by L.J. Smith | Daughters of Darkness by L.J. Smith | Dark Angel by L.J. Smith | The Chosen by L.J. Smith | Soulmate by L.J. Smith | Huntress by L.J. Smith | Black Dawn by L.J. Smith | Witchlight by L.J. Smith

I bought this lot of first edition Nightworld books by L.J. Smith on eBay. These are the US editions so I had to import these but was totally worth the extra pennies. I now have three different full sets of this series (the original U.K. and the later re-released second run). I am loving these covers though the original UK ones were the ones I read as a youngster so by default are my faves!

The Struggle by L.J. Smith | The Forbidden Game by L.J. Smith | Reckless Heart by Dee Austin | The Initiation by L.J. Smith | The Captive by L.J. Smith | The Power by L.J. Smith

Continuing my L.J. Smith theme; I also got The Forbidden Game bind-up (the special edition one) and The Secret Circle trilogy – which I actually don’t already own for some reason (not sure how that series has slipped past me – collector of forgotten teen books that I am!)

Lastly, this edition of The Struggle (part two in the Vampire Diaries series). These editions are rare as hens’ teeth but I am determined to track them down – only three to go! I also got Reckless Heart – the first book in the Dawn of Love series.

The Fury & The Reunion by L.J. Smith

This book also came in one of the lots – I very nearly forgot to include it as part of my haul this week!

Nocturne for a Widow by Amanda DeWees | The Waiting Booth by Brinda Berry | Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

Another couple of Kindle books to add to my scarily huge TBR! I just can’t seem to help myself – I must have poor impulse control…

books week 153 stacking the shelves

NOS4R2 by Joe Hill | Nora & Kettle by Lauren Nicolle Taylor | How to be a Normal Person by T.J. Klune

Finishing off my Kindle haul is NOS4R2, Nora & Kettle and How to be a Normal Person (yeah, like I could be one of those haha!)

received for review

The Perfect Shine by J.K. Hogan | New Boy at the Academy by Sam Hawk | The Stars May Rise & Fall by Estella Mirai

Just a couple(ish!) review copies requested this week. In fairness, they look too good to resist! What was I saying about impulse control…

books week 153 stacking the shelves

Unbroken by Brooklyn Ray | As Silver is to the Moon by Ryan A. Witt | Brush Strokes by E.S. Karlquist

… and here’s the proof! Seriously, I’m an absolute nightmare. I moan about my TBR being massive (and it is) but then I just ignore and go click happy…

  1. Well there are certainly worse addictions to have. I love seeing your hauls – especially your old books. I also love that I can find some horror here. I’m an eclectic reader but I LOVE horror and don’t see it enough. I see a few books here I’m going to have to check out. I’m planning on reading NOS4A2 in April as part of a Spring Into Horror Challenge. I need to get it done before the series starts.

  2. I haven’t read any LJ Smith, but I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Vampire Diaries and want to read the books that made that happen. Looks like you have some great books to read!
