Update – Personal

personal post

I have read a lot of books about cancer over the years. I have also lost several family members to the disease. I thought I was fairly knowledgable about the topic but nothing prepares you from hearing the worst news – that your mother has cancer and it’s terminal.

Reading about the topic does give you some ideas about what to expect. I read some non-fiction, clinical texts but a lot of the knowledge I have gleaned over the years has come from books, mainly of the YA variety.

Yesterday, my brave mum lost her battle with cancer. Although I was expecting it, I was also taken completely by surprise. I still cannot believe my mum is really gone.

My mum was also a great reader and encouraged me to read from an early age. She always supported me and I will miss her more than words can say. I am not sure how active I will be over the next wee while. My mum was 100% behind me all of the time (and really encouraged me to keep going with my blog) but I feel really adrift right now. Blogging has helped me keep strong over the last 7 months since my mum’s diagnosis but right now I am struggling to find the words to convey just how much of a loss I feel.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who has stopped by – your words of support and kindness have been very much appreciated.

  1. Brin I’m so sorry for your loss. I went through this a couple years ago if you ever need to talk. Sending hugs.

  2. What a moving post. I’d like to extend my sympathy to you and your family on your great loss, and I hope you will be able to draw solace, in time, from your precious memories of your mother and your shared passion for reading. Take care.

  3. Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry for your loss, Brin. I’m so so sorry. I’m freakishly close with my mother and the mere thought of her not being here stops me in my tracks. I couldn’t imagine. (((HUGS))) you’re in my thoughts!!!

  4. I’m so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family during this time. I too lost my mother to Cancer on November 30, 2012. It seems like yesterday, and I;m still not over it. I pray that you find strength and comfort, and keep moving forward. It’s a hard thing to deal with, but I read and work to keep me going. I also lean on my two siblings when I need a shoulder to cry on. God, I’m truly sorry.

    • Thank you. I don’t think it is something you ever get over. I’m sorry that you went through the same thing with your mother. I know it gets easier (it is not the first loss I have suffered due to cancer unfortunately) but it is much harder when it is your mum. Thanks for your kind words – it really means a lot to me. <3

  5. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what you are feeling. Sometimes there are no words and that’s okay, but from what you have said your mother sounds beautiful and brave and amazing. You and your family are in my prayers.

    • Thank you. My mum truly was a very special person and so strong and brave throughout. She will be greatly missed by everyone. Thanks for your kind words. <3
