Hey folks, this is a post I never wanted to (or thought I would have to) write but unfortunately my blog was hacked yesterday. I’m pretty small fry in the book blogging world so it was not something I ever expected. Bigger blogs – sure, but I thought I was safe in my own little corner of the blogosphere.
Well, lesson learned. Nobody is safe and it can happen to you no matter how small or niche your blog is.
I have taken steps to ensure my site is safe and all malware has been removed. It cost a lot; but end of the day it was worth it (for my own peace of mind, if nothing else). I am not the most technical person so wouldn’t have the first idea how to fix the issues personally and even if I could remove everything there was no guarantee it wouldn’t happen again. So, from now on my blog will be protected by Sucuri (for an annual fee).
Apologies to any of my followers who might have seen some emails sent out ostensibly from this blog. I don’t have full details but I was informed by my web host SiteGround that a huge number were sent out as if from myself. If any of you guys were bombarded I am so very sorry! I feel sick at the thought. 🙁
This was just a quick post to keep everyone apprised of the situation. Again, I am really sorry for anyone who might have been affected. I was an idiot for not protecting my site better. My hubris has unfortunately had an impact on more than just myself and I can only apologise and hope no lasting damage has been done.

I’m so sorry you got hacked! That is super scary but I’m glad you got it all figured out! And don’t worry about people who got tons of e-mails, I’m sure they understand. Its not your fault!

Thanks! Yeah it definitely is scary – I had no idea how easy it was for someone to hack into my blog! I thought I had it all covered… was totally wrong there lol. 🙂
Makes me think I need to look at mine. I’m through wordpress, so I think there’s a lot of plugins I can look at.
Yeah, it was through the plugins and themes that most of the malware got in through – scary stuff!
