Stacking the Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality
what I have been up to
I may have spent a bit more money than I would normally like on a vintage Point Fiction lot of books on eBay. To be fair, the lot itself wasn’t the expensive part, it was the postage from the States to the UK that bumped the price right up. Still, it was totally worth it! I ended up getting quite a few rare and hard-to-find books (or at least, hard-to-find at a decent price!) All in all, a successful haul.
I went to see the latest Star Wars movie ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and it was… okay. Not great, but not bad by any stretch. The story was a little thin but it had some good action set pieces.
Donald Glover stole the show as Lando Calrissian and I enjoyed Paul Bettany’s bad guy and Woody Harrelson’s reluctant and world-weary mentor quite a bit. Emilia Clarke didn’t get enough to do and although the guy they got to play Han Solo did an admirable job, he was no Harrison Ford. Still, it was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon (now where’s that Leia and/or Obi-Wan movie Disney?)
vintage books bought
If This is Love, I’ll Take Spaghetti by Ellen Conford | As the Waltz was Ending by Emma Macalik Butterworth | Sweet Friday Island by Theodore Taylor | Do You Love Me, Harvey Burns? by Jean Marzollo | Love Always, Blue by Mary Pope Osborne | The Karate Kid by Bonnie Bryant Hiller | Hello…Wrong Number by Marilyn Sachs | After the Bomb by Gloria D. Miklowitz | Just the Two Us by Hila Colman | Surviving by Elizabeth Faucher | The Ghosts of Departure Point by Eve Bunting
The above photo shows my vintage haul from eBay. Quite a few books but they are all in very good condition. ‘The Ghosts of Departure Point’ is extremely rare (you can get it but it tends to go for silly money). This edition of ‘As the Waltz was Ending’ is also really hard to get ahold of. I am really mega excited to own these finally!
new books bought
Wonders of the Invisible World by Christopher Barzak | The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw | Far From the Tree by Robin Benway | 13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough
I also picked up a few bargains on new books in addition to the vintage books above. Can you believe I got ‘Wonders of the Invisible World’, ‘Far from the Tree’ and ’13 Minutes’ for under £5.00 (collectively)? I paid a bit more for ‘The Wicked Deep’ but I really wanted the hardcover edition. 😍😍
Onyx & Ivory by Mindee Arnett | You, Me, Everything by Catherine Isaac | Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen
I forgot to include ‘Onyx & Ivory’ in the above photo with my other physical copies (I am a knob!) I also purchased a few eBooks including ‘You, Me, Everything’ and ‘Bittersweet’.
The Slave by Kate Aaron | Game On by Olley White | Swimmer Boy by Jay Argent
I love a freebie and all of these books were free on Kindle (can you believe it??) I am really excited to get stuck into these. ‘Game On’ in particular is calling to me!
More Than Friends by Aria Grace | Drunk in Love by Aria Grace | Choosing Happy by Aria Grace
This trilogy was also free on Kindle so I snapped it up right away! The books look interesting and I can never resist a freebie! I’m definitely looking forward to reading this series.
requested for review
The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles | Open Road Summer by Emery Lord | She Was the Quiet One by Michele Campbell
Not too many review books this week (I am trying to limit myself because I have over-requested again). I can’t wait to read these!
I am about to start watching The Magicians – has anyone watched this series? Is it good? Feel free to comment below!
