Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s theme is:
Top Ten Classics I Want To Read
This is an interesting topic for me as although I have read quite a few so far in my life, there are even more classics I want to read than what I have already read! I really do need to read more classics and I intend to do so as soon as I can (once I get through my already towering TBR pile that is!)
1. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald: I have always wanted to read this but have never found the time (yet).
2. Persuasion by Jane Austen: I have read most of Austen’s other works but have not yet read this – it is definitely one of the classics I want to read sooner rather than later.
3. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy: One of the classics I have wanted to read for years. I really enjoyed the film version.
4. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy: I have gotten halfway through this book twice! I have to finish it at some point.
5. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky: I am really intrigued by this book and it’s certainly one of the classics I want to read.
6. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas: I have always fancied reading this.
7. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde: I have always been a bit fascinated by Oscar Wilde so really want to read this.
8. Les Misérables by Victor Hugo: I have made a pact with myself to read this one day.
9. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne: This is a book I have heard many good things about so I am deeply curious about it.
10. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier: I actually cannot believe I haven’t read this already!

Early warning on les miserables it is a 1000 pgs long so you have to really commit.
Lol – it is a very hefty book!! I have had it sitting on my Kindle for about 2 years now – it is quite a daunting prospect (think it might be even worse with a physical copy). 😉
Gatsby really is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s one of the few books that I’ve read that I thought, after closing it “well that was worth all the hype.”
I’m glad to hear that it is worth all the hype – I have wanted to read it for years and I would really like to watch the movie too but not until I have read the book. 😉
Yeah, definitely read it first. It doesn’t actually take long to read, either, which is unusual for the classics. lol
That’s good that it is quite a quick read – I usually find even the slimmer volumes take ages! 😉
That’s pretty impressive that you read half of War and Peace twice. Well, I’m also cringing at that thought cause it’s such a behemoth of a read.
Cheers,

Thanks (would be more impressive if I had actually managed to finish it 😉 ). It is a monster of a book though it is pretty readable when you get going. I wish I could read it in the original Russian though because I always feel you lose something in the translation.
I LOVE your list – nice twist on the original topic and great selections too! 🙂
