Stacking the Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality
what’s the buzz: weekly round-up and book haul
It’s been mostly quiet on the western front this week. Had some excitement on Monday morning: getting a new shower fitted when the engineer tested our electrics only to discover there was no earth registering from any of our plug sockets! After getting an emergency electrician out it turns out that when they changed the water pipes from copper to plastic (a good 15+ years ago mind) the earth had been previously been set against the copper piping and when they changed this over they somehow forgot to re-earth the wiring!
Long story short: if anything had gone wrong (like a surge or something) if we touched anything metal in the house or hit a light switch at the wrong moment we were in danger of being electrocuted! Scary stuff. Luckily it’s all sorted out now but I get shivers thinking about what could have happened!
I had to take a day off work to get everything sorted (waste of a holiday but what can you do?) though at least everything is safe now and we have a working shower (the last one packed in – it still kinda worked but would cut off after about 30 seconds then blast out scalding hot water when it came back on – not pleasant, that’s for sure!)
The rest of the week has been pretty quiet (probably for the best after the hassle of Monday!) so I was able to squeeze in quite a bit of reading time. I’m very nearly finished Into the Crooked Place (just about 50 pages to go, give or take) and really enjoying it.
I’ve also been doing a re-read of the Cadeleonian series by Ginn Hale (I wanted to review the latest book Master of Restless Shadows but I haven’t reviewed the others yet so a re-read was necessary in order to do so – not a hardship since I adore these books and was already itching to re-read anyways!) I’m nearly finished the first book of Champion of the Scarlet Wolf and enjoying this series all over again (and picking up so many threads that would later take shape in later books – it’s amazing how many plots were set up that I didn’t realize first read through – the world-building and plot is so wonderfully intricate and detailed).
I finally managed to get up my review of Tempt this week (you might notice below its listed twice – because I bought the eBook and paperback – I’m obsessed lol). I had been stabbing away at it for a couple of days but for some reason was finding words hard. Think my brain was just fried from other stuff going on, to be honest. I’m pretty happy with how it eventually came together though – I loved the book so much I really wanted to try and do it justice so hopefully I’ve managed to do that. 😉
I also managed to find some time to purchase some lovely bookish merchandise!
Book sleeves from Book Besties UK: I am loving all of these – I’m a total Disney nerd so these were a must-buy as were the Sarah J. Maas fabrics!
Bookmarks from Till and Dill, Happy Hello Co and Knightmares Daydreams, pin from Illumicrate Pin Club with design by Fable and Black plus Faerie Fruit perfume from Behind the Pages: I am so happy with all of these lovelies!
Pre-order print for Ninth House, pins from Bookworm Candles & Crafts: The print is absolutely stunning and I am super-happy with these gorgeous pins!
