Stacking The Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews

Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

  • Participants are to create their own Stacking the Shelves post and link bank to Tynga’s Reviews so more people can join the fun!
  • Posts can be laid out any way you want.
  • The host site posts updates on a Saturday but bloggers taking part can post any day they choose.
  • Visit Tynga’s Reviews on a Saturday and add your link.
  • Visit other participants sites to find out what they have added!

The rules are simple and it is a really fun way to showcase your books and see what other bloggers are excited about this week! Not to mention the fact that it is a good way to interact with and get to know other bloggers!

here are the books i added to my shelves this week:

bought:

Ever since reading Second Chance Summer, I have been wanting to read more Morgan Matson so I jumped at the chance to buy Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour when it was on sale for Kindle. Reboot was also down in price and I had been wanting to read it for ages so I couldn’t resist snapping that up as well! Fall Out Girl actually came to my attention via a giveaway on another book blogger’s blog (the awesome GenGen’s Book Blog). I didn’t win the giveaway but the book was so intriguing that I had just had to purchase it right away.

Gathering Frost caught my eye – a dystopian fairy tale retelling? Sign me up! I also wanted to read some Robin McKinley and Deerskin looks like a powerful read. Ink is another book I have been eyeing up for some time and it was also on sale this week so I couldn’t resist buying that too.

24473763  22719257  11200056  19086630

Radiance only recently came to my attention but a lot of people seem to really love it so I made a bit of an impulse decision to but it (and another book Master of Crows by the same author). I am really looking forward to reading both of them. The Girl in the Steel Corset was also on sale this week – for only £0.59! So naturally, I couldn’t resist picking up a copy. Carmilla is a vampire novel which actually predates Bram Stoker’s Dracula. I have seen bits and pieces of the web serial loosely based on this tale so I was definitely intrigued enough to purchase it when I came across it.

freebies:

I came across some free Kindle books this week that looked pretty interesting. The Sorcery Code caught my attention due to the pretty cover but the synopsis sounds really interesting as well. Vampire Shift looks like an interesting read (I still like vampire books) and I picked up Ignite after buying Gathering Frost by the same author.

23935129  21737796  18895887

Rise of the Dragons looks like a fun fantasy read and I really liked the cover for A Tide of Shadows (so shallow lol). The Shadow and the Rose also had an interesting-sounding premise (and interesting cover).

arc’s:

I went a bit mad on Net Galley (after swearing to myself that I would step back a bit) but I couldn’t resist these beauties! Delicate Monsters looks really intense and different and I have been wanting to read Witch Hunter so when I saw the ARC I couldn’t resist! The Memory Hit also really intrigued me.

21417381  22849487  24857983

As Red as Blood and As White as Snow both look awesome (I love crime fiction but I really do not read enough of it). Aflame also caught my attention – I haven’t heard much about it but the synopsis definitely grabbed me.

I hadn’t heard of Boywatching but the description made me really want to pick this up. It wasn’t even up on Goodreads (was very glad about my librarian status because my OCD would not let me leave an unlinked book cover on this post). Blur sounded really, really good and I have a copy of The Vanishing Girl sitting waiting to be read so I just had to pick up the second book The Decaying Empire. 13 Days of Midnight also looks like a quirky but interesting read.

I would love to say I had recovered from the flu… but that would be a lie. I just cannot seem to shift it and it’s starting to get me down a little. I did take a trip to the doctor and there is nothing more nefarious going on but I am getting sick of coughing my innards up lol. 😉 I have also ended up with earache and can barely hear out of my right ear which is really annoying.

I am currently sitting watching The Voice UK (totally rooting for fellow Scot Stevie McCrorie!) and trying to get this post up (been trying all day – I actually couldn’t seem to keep awake and fell asleep on-and-off most of the day) so I have to apologize (again!) for not keeping up with comments this week. I need to keep on top of things better this coming week.

  1. My dad has an old copy of Carmilla though I’ve never got round to reading it. He’s a big vampire fan and he grabs all my urban fantasy books as soon as I’ve read them! Enjoy your books!

    • Brin

I like Vampire stuff too – I also cannot resist a bit of urban fantasy so I totally get where your dad is coming from lol. 😉

Thanks! Hope you enjoy your stack too. Half-Resurrection Blues looks really interesting – just added it to my TBR!!

    • Brin

Thanks! Carmilla does look pretty interesting. It’s a nice short read too. 🙂

I hope so – starting to feel like I am never going to feel 100% again lol.

    • Brin

Thanks! I am well impressed with your stack – I have been itching to read The Wrong Side of Right! Hope you enjoy all of your lovely books. 🙂

  2. This is a fab haul – so many books! I also have The Sorcery Code, it looks good but with so many books to read I don’t know when I’ll get around to my freebies! Everyone seems to have got The Witch Hunter this week, I’m gutted I missed never spotted it when it was on NetGalley, it looks amazing! Enjoy your new books 🙂

    • Brin

Thanks! I know what you mean. I pick up freebies but I know it will be absolutely ages before I get round to them lol.

That sucks. I hate missing out on stuff. It’s different if you are rejected – you just accept it and move on – but it is awful when you completely miss something. I’ve done it a time or two myself.

Still, you got some awesome books this week – I really want to read The Witch of Painted Sorrows. 🙂

    • Brin

Reboot does look really good. I have been eyeing it up for awhile. 😉

Thanks – hope you enjoy your books too – Far Far Away does look awesome. 🙂

  3. Your haul has some of the prettiest covers I have seen this week. I especially love Masters of Crows. I have read Sunshine by Robin McKinley and while I know a lot of people liked it, I really didn’t so now I am afraid to pick up any of her other books.

    • Brin

Some of them have really awesome covers. I am always drawn to a pretty cover myself. 😉

I haven’t actually read anything by Robin McKinley though I do own a couple of her books. I did check out Sunshine but the synopsis didn’t really draw me in. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it.

Great haul this week – The Nowhere Emporium looks really interesting. I hadn’t heard of it but I will need to check it out since it is set in Glasgow lol.

    • Brin

Gathering Frost does have a pretty cover. <3 I am also looking forward to Reboot - looks like it will be an awesome read.

Awesome haul - I really, really want to read Dream a Little Dream - hope you enjoy it. 🙂
