Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2022
I was reminded watching one of my favourite BookTuber’s channel today that I hadn’t yet completed the annual Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag for 2022 yet! I looked back and noticed that I completed it on 16th July last year which made me laugh because it is the 16th July today so it would be rude not to compile the tag this very day, wouldn’t it? 😉

1. best book you’ve read so far in 2022
Had a really long wait for this one but it was so worth it – a fitting end to an amazing series of books. I’m sad to say goodbye but the journey was so great it doesn’t feel bitter in any way.
2. best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022
This one is interesting because it functions as a sequel but also a new series following a new protagonist. It was just as awesome as the previous books – I just love T.J. Klune’s writing whether he is making your sides hurt by laughing or weeping – he does both wonderfully.
3. new release you haven’t read yet, but want to
I am so intrigued by this book (mainly because I’m loving the cover aesthetic – I do get reeled in by a pretty cover!) I got it in a book box so it’s just finding the time to read it now…
4. most anticipated release for the second half of the year
This sounds so good (and on a shallow front – I’m loving the cover!!) I haven’t read any of this author’s books as yet but they have been on my radar for a while so this might be the one to start with…
5. biggest disappointment
There isn’t actually anything wrong with this book; it’s well written and has a really sweet romance – maybe that’s the problem for me? It’s just a little bit too sweet?? A shame because I loved Date Me, Bryson Keller. I think this is more of a me thing rather than anything being wrong with this one but I was disappointed nonetheless. 🙁
6. biggest surprise
I bought this book on a whim and it ended up being one of my favourite reads of the year (so far, at least…) It also was a new author for me and I’ve pretty much devoured the rest of their books since reading this haha! (not that that’s a bad thing though my wallet doesn’t thank me!!)
7. favourite new author (debut or new to you)
This book is so frickin’ adorable! One of my favourites I read earlier this year so I now have to read everything else by this author (as I tend to do hehe!) 😀
8. newest fictional crush
Jericho Nox anyone? Shades of Magnus Damora (my fave character from Morgan Rhodes awesome series Falling Kingdoms) but different enough to be really intriguing on his own merit. I can’t wait for the next book!
9. newest favourite character
Colour me surprised that I ended up really liking Jaxon Trent (despite not having a high opinion of his brother Jared so was expecting more of the same). Jaxon is just as troubled (maybe even more so than Jared) but even at his most asshattish he was way better and more sympathetic a character.
10. book that made you cry
Hazard and Somers just get to me, when they hurt – I hurt (especially my boy Emery). This book was a rough one for them but as always Gregory Ashe delivers a really well-rounded story with characters I cannot help but adore. Love them.
11. book that made you happy
This book is like being wrapped up in a great big hug! It’s super-sweet and fluffy with just enough angst to give it an edge (which I like). The writing style was hard for me at first but I was soon engrossed enough that it stopped bothering me.
12. favourite book to movie adaptation you’ve seen this year?
Not quite a movie but close enough! I haven’t read the book but I enjoyed the limited series quite a bit when it debuted on Netflix. Definitely worth a watch. 🙂
13. favourite review / post you’ve written this year?
Erm, I’ve been bad (really, really bad) at posting this year but I really enjoyed writing this post about Mass Effect (a tag I’d seen floating about on Twitter).
14. most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
A bit of a cheat because this is a book about an artist but I’ve been so obsessed with Jasmine Becket-Griffith’s art I just had to get the book and include it here. Look at the amazing art on the cover? And that’s just for starters… 😉
15. what books do you need to read by the end of the year?
So many books to pick from but these three above are definitely near the top of my TBR (though I am terrible for not keeping up with books I add to my collection…) #bookwormproblems
