stacking the shelves bookish haul

Stacking the Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsReading Reality

what I have been up to:

Hmm, well apart from buying rather a few books (I totally do not seem to get concept of a book-buying ban!) and other acquisitions, I haven’t really been up to much at all. I went to see ‘The Avengers: Infinity War’ yesterday and all I can say is it was brutal. Beyond brutal. No spoilers… but I am totally shook after watching it. I am still trying to process it all.

I was also completely bowled over by the news that the EAR/ONS (East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker), now commonly dubbed the Golden State Killer, was finally apprehended after 40-odd years! I’m a bit of a true crime buff and this has long been a case that has confounded me. I cannot believe they actually found him. Hopefully, the families and survivors can now get justice.

I bought and am currently reading ‘I’ll Be Gone In The Dark’ by the late Michelle McNamara but I’ve been taking my time with it because it is such a disturbing read, even for me as someone who already knows a fair bit about his crimes. I haven’t yet finished it but it is completely crazy that he has finally been caught. It’s bittersweet that the author did not live to see his capture. I’m looking forward to the planned HBO documentary series even more now if that’s possible.

latest acquisitions – new books:

 burndive acquisitions

Now, I already own Burndive in paperback and ebook format but I had to by the newly re-edited ebook edition! Isn’t the new cover pretty as well? 😍

circe acquisitions

I haven’t read ‘The Song of Achilles’ yet (for shame!) but I couldn’t not pick up this gorgeous new book from Madeline Miller. The cover is stunning – the picture does not do it justice.

glimpses acquisitions

I have this in ebook format but I had to buy this to complete my collection. It’s print to order so is getting pretty rare – wanted to get it before I couldn’t anymore. 😉

out of the blue acquisitions

‘Out of the Blue’ came in this month’s Book Box Club and it looks really awesome! Plus, it’s partially set in Edinburgh! I went to University there so I have always felt an affinity for Edinburgh. 🙂

king of ashes acquisitions

This came to today and I managed to snag a signed copy! Really looking forward to reading this but it also reminds me I need to finish the Riftwar series first (haven’t read the last couple of books!)

restore me acquisitions

I totally forgot to include ‘Restore Me’ in my last STS post! Oops!! I haven’t actually read the original trilogy but I do own the books and want to get to it sooner rather than later.

trick roller acquisitions

I have the first book and it definitely is something I will enjoy. Might put off reading it until the next book is out though (maybe).

primals acquisitions

This was a freebie so I thought I would give it a whirl… I like to read outside my comfort zones on occasion…

pitch black acquisitions

Another freebie but it looks interesting so fingers crossed. Hopefully it will surprise me (in a good way!)

latest acquisitions – vintage books:

I can never resist some good ‘ole fashioned vintage books! I ended up with quite a few over the last couple of weeks because I had my eye on a particular book that was going pretty cheap in part of a lot on eBay (it tends to come with a hefty price normally).

love always, blue acquisitions

First up is ‘Love Always, Blue’. I can’t actually remember if I read this when I was younger but this cover looks kinda familiar so I might well have. Nevertheless, I couldn’t resist adding to my pile of acquisitions this week. 😉

singing citadel acquisitions

‘The Singing Citadel’ came in this month’s Prudence and the Crow box. It looks really interesting and I’m loving the groovy cover!

ode to billy joe acquisitions

‘Ode to Billy Joe’ is a book I have been trying to track down for ages, and I really wanted this particular edition. I was really lucky to get it as part of a lot, it normally goes for anywhere between £50.00 to £100.00 individually so I definitely got a bargain!

john goldfarb acquisitions

Of course, I then ended up with another 5 books! I think most of them look pretty interesting. They all tie-in to movies but I haven’t actually seen any of them.

 when michael calls acquisitions

This actually looks really interesting – I love a good horror now and again and the premise sounds pretty intriguing…

dirty mary, crazy larry acquisitions

This one on the other hand has a really off putting title, I’m not quite sure what to make of it but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

airport 77 acquisitions

I have heard of this one but I haven’t seen the movie or read the book. Ah well, it’s like going on an adventure and it sounds exciting enough! 😉

junior bonner acquisitions

It’s Steve McQueen, king of cool! I have absolutely no clue what this is about but that cover! Pity the sunglasses hide McQueen’s pretty blue eyes!

  1. I love the movie tie-in books you grabbed. I’ll have to look into a few of those. I am so glad they finally caught the man who did all those horrible crimes. I have a friend reading “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” too. Have a wonderful week.
