There’s a new topic every Wednesday, and you then list your Top 5 books related to the particular topic.

today’s topic is: Favourite Jokester Characters

Oooh, I do love me some jokester characters – the tricksier the better! This is actually really hard to narrow down to just five but I will do my very best!

1. The Fool – Realm of the Elderlings series by Robin Hobb

Ah my Beloved Fool! My favourite literary character bar none! Court jester, white prophet, jokester, best friend… there are so many ways to describe the Fool. Leaving us guessing right until the end, the Fool is probably the most mysterious character I have ever come across. I grew up with Fitz and the Fool and they will always have a special place in my heart.

2. Poet – Foolish Kingdoms series by Natalia Jaster

A new favourite of mine! I actually only read the book a couple of weeks ago but Poet certainly made a lasting impression! I am always rather predisposed to court jesters (due to my everlasting love for the Fool) and Poet is a larger-than-life character – always quick with a jest and a joke but hiding vulnerabilities and a true heart.

3. Elliot Schafer – In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan

Sarah Rees Brennan has a very witty writing style. By the same token, there is always at least one character in each of her books that cracks me up no end. The funniest (and prickliest!) of her characters is one Elliot Schafer, the main protagonist from her latest novel. To say that I love Elliot would be an understatement. He is a hilariously grumpy, nerdy weirdo who never fails to make me smile. Bless his little bratty heart!

4. Henry “Monty” Montague – The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Monty is an oftimes frustrating main character but he is so adorably witty and charming you tend to forgive him for all of his slights and misdemeanors. Eminently lovable, I enjoy Monty a lot and his romance with Percy is just so darned cute and shippable. In addition I smile whenever I think of these two, living their lives and just being happily, stupidly in love.

5. Seregil í Korit Solun Meringil Bôkthersa – Nighrunner series by Lynn Flewelling

Seregil is a trip. He is witty, charming, effervescent (hmm, think I may have a type here?) and frankly a joy of a character. All things considered, he is definitely one of my all-time favourite jokesters and I am always happy to read about his adventures. 😉

  1. I can’t believe Elliot completely slipped my mind! I’d picked up In Other Lands on a whim and was surprised at how awesome it was!
