Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s theme is:
Top Ten Popular Authors I’ve Never Read
There are a lot of popular authors I have never read (yet). With so many amazing pieces of literature out there, there are always going to be some that slip through the cracks for any bookworm. Here are some popular authors that I have yet to read:
1. V.C. Andrews
Author of the controversial book Flowers in the Attic, V.C. Andrews was something of a phenomenon during the 1980s. Massively popular, the Dollanganger series is one that I have never read (though I admit I am almost morbidly curious about!). I have seen the film version though.
2. Philippa Gregory
I love historical fiction but I have never read any of Philippa Gregory’s books. I have heard they are a little bit formulaic but still very good so I think I will check her works out at some point when I have some spare time.
3. Lois McMaster Bujold
I adore science fiction and fantasy and Lois McMaster Bujold is one of the most acclaimed writers in this field, having won several prestigious awards. Loathe as I am to admit, I have yet to read a single one of her books (shame on me – I know!). I really must at some point – I really want to just haven’t found the time yet.
4. Robert Jordan
Author of the massive Wheel of Time series (who unfortunately died before it’s completion – it was handed over to fellow author Brandon Sanderson to finish off). I have heard the story started off strong but lost some of its spark later on. I have never read this series (and I consider myself a fantasy fan!).
5. John Green
A relatively new author, John Green’s books are top-sellers. He doesn’t have a great deal of output as yet but what he has released has been very popular in the YA market (or you know, with slightly older folks like me who still really enjoy reading the genre). I do have The Fault in Our Stars on my bookshelf but I have yet to read it (or any other books by this author).
6. Veronica Roth
Another hugely successful YA author, her Divergent series is extremely popular and one of the biggest sellers of recent years. I have the first two books but have yet to read them.
7. Laurell K. Hamilton
Author of the hugely successful Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series, she has released over 20 books in this series alone not to mention several other unrelated books/series. I have read none of them.
8. E.L. James
Everyone knows who E.L. James is. Her Fifty Shades trilogy has been hugely successful. The first book Fifty Shades of Grey is apparently the best selling book of all time in the UK. I have never read this series (and never intend to – not my thing at all).
9. Agatha Christie
Queen of the murder mystery, Agatha Christie was one of Britain’s most prolific writers. Despite this fact, I haven’t read any of her books (though I used to watch Poirot on ITV religiously!)

HAHA I point blank refuse to read anything E.L James or similar! *shudder*
Lol – I am the same. 😉
Your list is a bit like mine – except where you have Robert Jordan, I have George R. R. Martin. 🙂 I’ve read Veronica Roth and wasn’t blown away; I do like most of what I’ve read from John Green, though. And I’m with you on the E. L. James thing. *blech*
I do want to read John Green – just trying to find the time. 😉
Lol – I heard enough about Fifty Shades from the girls at work to know to definitely avoid it all all costs!!
There’s a few on there that I haven’t read. I didn’t do this particular Top Ten post although I really liked the idea (time just ran out!)
I have read some of the Philipa Gregory books – they are quite entertaining.
I have also read EL James – but, in my defence I felt I had to read it as one of my book buddies was so insistent. It was terrible. I definitely DO NOT recommend it to anyone. I could have thrown it into the bin without a moment’s hesitation but it wasn’t mine…
Lynn 😀
It was a fun topic but there were just so many to pick from – feels like I will never catch up with some authors. 😉
Lol – I know what you mean. So many people recommended it to me but I knew I really wouldn’t like it!!
