Stacking the Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality
what’s the buzz: weekly round-up
This week has been pretty uneventful for the most part. Had a few blog hiccups (such as getting locked out of my Admin panel – not fun!) so I haven’t been as active this week as I would have liked.
Went to see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald today. It was okay but definitely not as good as the first film. It felt like a whole lot of set-up – that seemed to go nowhere (though I expect it will pay off in the later films – at least, I hope it will).
I actually thought Jude Law did a good job as younger Dumbledore and although I still wish Colin Farrell was playing Grindelwald, Johnny Depp toned down his usual Johnny Depp-schtick for this role. I really enjoy Eddie Redmayne’s Newt though and the rest of the core four even though they were somewhat lost within the massive plot this time around. So much going on! 😕
book haul for the week
The book-buying ban is not going so well, I haven’t bought that many new releases or new books but I have been continuing to buy vintage books – think I have a shopping addiction (or book-buying addiction at the very least!) 😛
books bought:
The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee | Lie by Natalia Jaster
I was really lucky to be granted an ARC of ‘Lie’ – it’s such an amazing book I knew I had to buy the paperback when it was out (I bought the kindle version too!) I have also really happy that ‘The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy’ is finally out – I loved the first book so I am really excited for Felicity’s story.
St Clare’s collection by Enid Blyton | Life Without Friends by Ellen Emerson White | The Ghost Belonged to Me by Richard Peck
I do already have these editions of the St Clare’s series but this box set is in near new condition so I couldn’t resist! I also finally (FINALLY!) managed to source a copy of ‘Life Without Friends’ that wasn’t an ex-library copy. Go me! Rounding out my vintage haul is ‘The Ghosts Belonged to Me’ by Richard Peck. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. 😉
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang | Coming home to the Comfort Food Café by Debbie Johnson
Just a couple of eBooks this week! I got ‘The Poppy Wars’ on sale for £1.99 – such a great deal and I’ve been wanting to read this for ages.
for review:
Enchantée by Gita Trelease | Whiteout by Gabriel Dylan
These both look really good so I was super-chuffed to get ARC’s via Netgalley for both books. Can’t wait to dig in!
Stay A Little Longer by Jess Bryant | The Breaths We Take by Huston Piner
Another couple of ARC’s to round out this week’s haul. Both of these look awesome and I am very much looking forward to reading them!
