The Mid-year Book Freakout was a survey/tag I took part in last year and I really wanted to do it again this year! It was created by the lovely ladies at A Book So Fathomless

Mid-Year Book Freakout: 2015 Edition

I had a lot of fun with this last year so I knew that if it surfaced again this year I was definitely going to take part again. So, without any further ado, here are my answers!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2015

I am really torn between Uprooted by Naomi Novik, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas or The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. I loved all of them so much. But… if I have got to pick just one favourite, I would have to go with Uprooted by Naomi Novik (by the tiniest of margins). It is an epic fantasy with a fairy tale retelling spin and it was just marvelous!

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2015

Cress by Marissa Meyer. I love this series and Cress was yet another fantastic entry (though I did love Scarlet just a little bit more but I read that last year). I cannot wait for Winter!

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

Hmm, there are so many to pick from but I would have to say Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone. It has a main character with OCD so I can totally relate to that, and the story just looks amazing.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Fool’s Quest by Robin Hobb. I have been anxiously waiting for this book for a year and it has been excruciating (especially since I didn’t get approved for an ARC this time round *sob*). Robin Hobb is my favourite author and this series is super-close to my heart.

5. Biggest disappointment

Killer Queen by L.H. Cosway. I adored the first book Painted Faces with the heat of a thousand suns but this one just did not click with me. I still love the characters but I just wasn’t as sucked in by Nicholas’s point of view which was a real surprise because I loved his character so much.

6. Biggest surprise

The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black. I totally dragged my hears about reading this even though the synopsis really sounded like something I would like. When I finally picked it up I was blown away by how good it was.

7. Favourite new author (Debut or new to you)

Sarah J. Maas. Although I haven’t read Throne of Glass yet, I have definitely hopped aboard the love train for this author.

8. Newest fictional crush

Khalid from The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. The guy just radiated heat and intensity but in the best possible way. I was captivated right from the start and was mesmerised by the chemistry between him and Shahrzad.

9. Newest favourite character

Lucien from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I loved his snark and his loyalty. He just tore at my heartstrings.

10. Book that made you cry

My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga made me sniffle a little bit. It had a really sad story and the portrayal of depression was so right on the nose it was difficult to stomach at times. Still, it was an awesome read.

11. Book that made you happy

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli – it was such a sweet and adorable book and I just loved Simon so much. I had a big smile on my face at the ending – and that’s all I am going to say on that except read this book!!

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year

I haven’t really seen many this year but I did really enjoy Mockingjay Part 1. It was my favourite book in the series and definitely my favourite of the movies (so far).

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. This book really hit me in the feels and I really enjoyed writing this review.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve acquired so far this year

Definitely Uprooted by Naomi Novik. I acquired this via a giveaway and I completely fell in love with the cover the moment I received it. It is just so darn pretty!

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas and the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi are at the top of my list. I also really want to get to Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge and Every Breath by Ellie Marney.
