Stacking the Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality
what I have been up to
Aside from spending money, I’ve still been trying to overcome a nasty stomach bug (which seems to be lingering) so that has kept me pretty much out of commission that last week or so. I have been getting back into playing Dragon Age 2 again (it’s finally backward compatible on Xbox One!) and I’ve of course been doing a bit of reading.
Re-read ‘The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue’ and enjoyed it even more second time round (which was quite a feat as I pretty much adored it first go around too). I just love Monty and Percy. I’m super-excited for Felicity’s book too!
I also managed to get back to the cinema and went to see ‘Breaking In’ yesterday which was not too shabby at all. Looking forward to Deadpool 2!!
spending the pennies: new books
Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin | One Night With Hemsworth by Eden Findlay | The Preacher’s Son by J.A. Rock and Lisa Henry | Blood, Sweat and Pixels by Jason Schrier
I kept my spending on new books to a minimum this week but I’m pretty happy with the selection. Been wanting to read Giovanni’s Room for ages. When I saw it for £0.99 on Kindle I knew I had to buy it! I also picked up ‘The Preacher’s Son’ (which seems to have picked up some controversy but I’ll still give it a whirl) and ‘One Night With Hemsworth’ (been awhile since I read any romance). I also picked up ‘Blood, Sweat and Pixels’ which appeals to the gamer in me!
spending the pennies: vintage books
top row: left to right
Rock ‘n’ Roll Night by Todd Strasser | Taffy Sinclair: Television Star by Besty Haynes | Nothing Ever Stays The Same by Peggy Burns | The Ice Mountain by Nicholas Walker | The Tennis Term at Trebizon by Anne Digby | Masquerade by Janice Harrell
bottom row: left to right
Veronica at the Wells by Lorna Hill | The Mystery Kiss by Elaine Harper | Jo in the Middle by Jean Ure | Taffy Sinclair: Strikes Back by Betsy Haynes | Show Me Some emotion by M.E. Cooper | Your Daily Horoscope by Janice Harrell
I picked up this twelve-book lot on eBay going relatively cheap. I can never resist a vintage book lot! Got some beauties that I haven’t come across before here. I have been meaning to track down a copy of ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Nights’ for ages. The cover gave me a bit of a laugh as well. The guy in the middle is the spitting image of River Phoenix ! Doesn’t the guy on the left look like a young Rob Lowe? The artist clearly took some inspiration from these two 80’s stars!
books received for review
The Harper Effect by Taryn Bashford | Ten After Closing by Jessica Bayliss | Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody | Fawkes by Nadine Brandes
I was super-chuffed to be approved for ‘Ace of Shades’ I have been wanting to read it for ages! I am also looking forward to reading ‘Fawkes’ and ‘Ten After Closing’. Can’t remember hearing of ‘The Harper Effect’ but it looks really interesting.
What It Seems by Sydney Blackburn | Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp | Romeo for Real by Markus Harwood-Jones | The Six and the Crystals of Ialana by Katlynn Brooke
‘Before I Let Go’ has been on my radar for a while but the rest are new to me. I love finding new authors and I cannot wait to give to try these new-to-me authors out!

Firstly I love your header, marble and rose gold foiling is my thing too
Ooh I never thought to buy vintage books. I do buy from 2nds bookstores though.
I really like all your selection from Netgalley. I’ve been seeing Ace of Shades everywhere recently.

I’m hoping to grab Ace of Spades from my library soon. Looks like you got lots of books to read!
