stacking the shelves bookish haul

Stacking the Shelves – a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality

what’s the buzz: weekly round-up and book haul

I am so happy it’s the weekend! Honestly, it’s been a long, busy week. It feels good to get a bit of a breather today. I woke up late, had a relaxing bath, a bit of pampering, a nice lunch, made up a playlist, had a hot chocolate and have finally settled down to do this post! So far, it has been a pretty good day.

I also got a bit of bookish mail: some art prints (and a bookmark!) from one of my favourite artists Po Jainter, and some book sleeves from BookBestiesUK – one of which I bought but the other I won in a Facebook giveaway – thanks so much Louise for getting it out so quickly and for giving away such a gorgeous sleeve!

I have also been making some (small) progress towards my 2019 Reading Challenges. It helps when books fit across challenges!

I reduced the number of books for the Beat the Backlist 2019 challenge though – 50 was just not feasible and was giving me a bit of anxiety thinking about it. I’ve now set the goal for 25 books which seems much more doable. So far, I’ve read a whopping 2 books lol. I need to get my finger out! 😀

I have so far managed to do the monthly prompts for the Monthly Motif 2019 challenge. The book I selected last month was A Quiet Place by Peter D. Burchard (a New to Me Author!). This month my selection was The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge – this fit the Cover Love prompt to read a book with a cover that caught my eye.

The Twisted Tree also worked for the Retellings 2019 challenge too because the book is about Norse mythology. I’ve only read 2 books of my 15 book goal, the other book I’ve read for this challenge was Dream by Natalia Jaster – which also worked for the New Release 2019 challenge! I’ve still got a ways to go with this one – only 1 book read towards my 30 book goal – yikes, need to catch up!

weekly bookish purchases

My new books actually outnumber my vintage buys this week! Will wonders never cease. 😉 That almost never happens.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon | A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer | The Orphanage of Gods by Helena Coggan

I got my signed (and personalised!) copy of The Priory of the Orange Tree yesterday via Illumicrate! I also got a hardcover copy of A Curse so dark and Lonely and The Orphanage of the Gods which looks really intriguing. Can’t wait to get started on these beauts!

The Music of What Happens by Bill Konigsberg | Dream by Natalia Jaster

I just finished reading Openly Straight and Honestly, Ben by Bill Konigsberg so I’m really looking to starting The Music of What Happens. I also got my paperback copy of Dream by Natalia Jaster – the collection is complete!

Daughters of Eve by Lois Duncan | Family Curse by R.L. Stine | Whispers from the Dead by Joan Lowery Nixon

Some more vintage teen horrors to add to my collection. I’m happy I was able to track down this edition of Daughters of Eve by Lois Duncan.

A Lily in the Light by Kristin Fields | I Stop Somewhere by T.E. Carter | Blackfin Sky by Kat Ellis | My Sister Milly by Gemma Dowler

I got A Lily in the Light via Amazon First Reads – looks pretty interesting! I also came across this book about Milly Dowler by her elder sister Gemma Dowler. It hurts my heart thinking about that poor family and what they went through so I already know this is going to be an emotional read.

received for review

Not too many review copies this week, trying to watch my ratio (like it isn’t already borked lol) but I am attempting to get it sorted out. 😉

Abundance by Emmalynn Spark | Tell No One by Barbara Taylor Sissel | The Wrong Kind of Love by Lexi Ryan | The Stillwater Girls by Minka Kent

These all looked pretty interesting. I’m trying to read out with my comfort zone so I am reading more adult contemporary and thriller/mystery novels.

  1. I’m thinking of grabbing Orange Tree for my Kindle. I don’t think I want to lug it around even though it is gorgeous. I love seeing your vintage hauls. I’m hoping to snag an arc of Stillwater Girls too.
