Monthly Wrap-Up: April 2015
April wasn’t a great month for me reading-wise. I was still recovering from the flu and was feeling a bit down remembering all the things that happened this time last year. I ended up not devoting as much time to reading as I had hoped but it has picked up the last week or so so I am pretty hopeful that I will be on track sooner rather than later.
here are the books i read in April:
Only four books read this month but I enjoyed them for the most part. Princess of the Silver Woods was a good read though I didn’t enjoy it as much as the earlier two books in the series. Innocence was my first Suki Fleet book and I rather enjoyed it – will definitely be checking out this author again in the future.
I also decided to mix it up with a little non-fiction. What happened at Columbine has always intrigued me and these two books are widely considered some of the best literature out there on this horrific tragedy. It was the anniversary on the 20th April and I finally decided to read Brookes Brown’s unique perspective as a friend of both of the shooters. I then read the Jeff Kass book which was a more factual accounting of what happened but No Easy Answers was a more intimate look given the history the author had with the perpetrators. Both were worth reading but it is unlikely I will review either of these on the blog.
challenge update:
I haven’t been keeping up with my Challenges as much as I would have liked. I seem to be falling behind with the reviewing part rather than the reading part but I need to pick up with both.
I finally got up my reviews for Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda agenda (which counted for the Debut Author Challenge, the LGBT Challenge, and the Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge) and Princess of the Midnight Ball (which counts towards the Flights of Fantasy Challenge, the Fairytale Challenge, and the TBR Pile Challenge).
I read Princess of the Silver Woods (which will go towards the Flights of Fantasy Challenge, and the Fairytale Challenge when I finally get up my review) and Innocence which slots nicely into the LGBT Challenge. Reviews will (hopefully) be up pretty soon so they will ‘officially’ count.
I also have a few reviews due up from books in read in January – March (so behind!) which will hopefully bring me up to speed. Getting there!!
what i watched in April:
Game of Thrones is back on (whoop!!) so I have been really engrossed with watching this as it is my favourite show!! Season five is really starting to deviate from the books so for once I have no clue what’s ging on – and I love it!!
I have also been watching Outlander which has now been picked up by Amazon Prime and I have been thoroughly enjoying its return. Another series I have gotten into this month is The Returned which is a remake of the French series Les Revenants. It has been pretty entertaining but it is not as creepy as the original.
I was deeply saddened by the death of Jonathan Crombie, best known for his portrayal of Gilbert Blythe in the Anne of Green Gables miniseries. I bought the DVD of the series and have been watching it as a kind of memorial to the actor who really captured the hearts of young girls everywhere as the lovable Gil.
what else i got up to in April:
I haven’t really been up to much else at all this month. I haven’t yet been to see Age of Ultron which is kind-of annoying me but I have plans to see it next week so I will have to endure. 😉 The weather has been pretty strange this month especially this last week. Sun, gales, snow, rain – all in the same day!! Scotland really is the only country where you can get sunburn and frostbite in the same week lol.
